So it may be springtime in TEXAS but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy you favorite yule-tide beverage… that’s right, I’m talking HOT CHOCKIE

For the past month and some, I’ve been reading the above book along with an “added sugar fast” that’s finishing up this Friday — it also happens to coincide with my last day of school, and I’m more excited about it than the students (both for summertime and for my fast to come to a nice close — this will come as a shocker but turns out students are somewhat uninterested in an added sugar fast, take my word for it).

Anywho, if you are thinking it may benefit YOU to be on such a fast for a while, I’d commend both this book and the spiritual discipline to ya — and if you need something to tide you over in the process, this hot chocolate recipe I’ve crafted over the last month will come in clutch!

Here’s what you need:

RAW HONEY

COCOA POWDER

MILK or HALF AND HALF

VANILLA EXTRACT

Basic steps:

Use about 1 cup of milk or half and half (for richer drink)

Heat in the microwave for 1.5–2 min (depending on your microwave, milk may bubble over as it heats so keep an eye on it to avoid a mess!)

  • *Alternatively, I know some hot chocolate SNOBS (good friends of mine but snobs nontheless) insist on BOILING their milk on the stove. Do what you must, I have not personally tried the stove method because I’m highly impatient**
  • After heating in microwave, you may have to skim film off the top and dispose

In a separate mug, pour in about 2–3 tablespoons of cocoa — sift for best dissolution in the milk

Add in the raw honey (I probably use about 1 tablespoon, sweeten to taste)

After milk heated to steaming, slowly pour in over the cocoa and honey, stirring as ingredients mix to ensure best consistency and avoid chunks forming at the bottom of the mug (this can happen with unsifted cocoa powder or too tepid milk)

Tip a dash of vanilla extra into the mixture and stir again

If you are feeling extra special, you can heat up a bit of milk or half and half in the measuring cup again to froth up and top your hot chocolate off

Last, sip and enjoy — this has been my FAVORITE added sugar fast treat and I will continue making it beyond fast conclusion!

Thanks for reading :)

If you happen to try this recipe out, I’d love for you to send reviews — if you add any other pieces to customize, share and give feedback!
